About our Vision

Our vision doesn’t fit in a Nutshell – it’s HUGE. We see a peaceful world with clean air, food for all and abundance – but in the meantime, we’ll start here, with Chilling the Earth – supporting clean technologies and reducing green house gasses. Our planet is rich with natural renewable resources and even richer with brilliant minds and ingenuity. We can do this… together, we can stop global warming and live green.

Who We Are

Kristin York – Executive Director

Kristin’s passion for the environment started early. As a young girl in the 70’s, she spent her free time towing a little red wagon around the neighborhood collecting things to recycle and delivering free copies of the self published “Ecology Newsletter”. The neighbors were polite about about the original “reduce, reuse, recycle” propaganda, but no one really seemed that interested.

3 decades, 2 college degrees, several career changes and kids later, Kristin found herself on a planet under siege from global warming and resource depleting factions. Inspired by the work of Al Gore, Friedman, Van Jones and a host of others passionate about the environment, she is now looking to replace the red wagon with a hybrid and her newsletter is a paperless website. As the founding director of Chill the Earth, Kristin is energized and committed to her chiller vision of “Inspiring Sustainable Culture”. She believes we can re-power the planet with renewable energy. All we need is the commitment to do what it takes.

Andrea Walhof-Grisham

Andrea's passion for the environment is truly inborn. She was born and raised in the Netherlands – the country best known for windmills and bicycles. After studying Environmental Art and Design in the Netherlands, she came to the U.S. to pursue Environmental Design and Architecture at the Philadelphia College of Art. In 1984, Andrea moved west to Northern California and after working in the industry, started her own residential design firm, Walhof + Asociates. Andrea embraced the new trend towards green building and became actively involved in various non-profit organizations such as the Rockridge Community Planning Council, Habitot children’s museum, Habitat for Humanity and advisor to the city of Oakland’s new Green Building mandatory measures.

In 2004, Andrea embraced the mountain lifestyle when she moved to the Truckee Tahoe area. In addition to becoming a ski coach, Andrea Co -founded SOSGlenshire.org (Safe Open Space around Glenshire ) a non-profit to advocate preservation of open space in a deer migration corridor. She has also continued her Residential Design, with an emphasis on Green Building / energy efficient designs, with a respect for the environmental context of a building.
